Salop Design and Engineering pressing ahead with Made in the Midlands
Salop Design and Engineering (SDE) is one of the leading manufacturers of pressings and assemblies in the UK, and has been a loyal member of Made in the Midlands for several years.
SDE is based in Shrewsbury and all of its manufacturing activities are produced from a modern, purpose-built factory on the outskirts of the town.
Currently employing 100 members of staff, SDE specialises in the production of metal pressings and assemblies which are manufactured for a wide variety of markets, including;
- Automotive
- Domestic Appliances (White goods)
- Construction (Yellow goods)
- Household fittings (Quality finishings)
- Ministry of Defence
- Leisure
The wider Salop Design group also includes Salop Powder Coating and Salop Haulage.
The firm’s proactive approach to training sees it offer level 2 and 3 apprenticeships from an in-house training academy at its Shrewsbury site. All the apprentices are in full-time employment with Shropshire companies and they are taught the skills which will help equip them for future careers in industry.
Chris Greenough is Commercial Director at Salop Design and is also a former President of MIM, as such he is a strong advocate for the group.
He said: “I have been involved with MIM for a number of years, and have seen the growth of the group.
“With members, patrons and talented individuals, they have helped cement the Midlands manufacturing region as a real force with the sector.
“Adding to the UK economy, by innovative and blue sky thinking, a region that embraced the first industrial revolution, is now at the forefront of the next revolution. By pushing productivity, and looking to future markets, we are an ever changing group of movers and makers.
“If you want to be part of the very best group for networking, connecting and boosting your company…then be part of the buzz; be part of Made in the Midlands.”
All the apprentices in our centre are full time employees of Shropshire companies, and we make sure they are given every chance to learn the key skills they need to go on to engineering careers. Engineering is a fantastic sector to build a career for the future.
